About the Film
The Great Salt Lake provides for 10 million migratory birds every year, but if the lake continues to shrink, starving birds will line its shores and toxic dust storms will cloud Salt Lake City’s skies. Can Utahns prioritize public and environmental health over short-term economic gain?
Director Biography – Jaxon Derow
Jaxon Derow grew up in Brooklyn, NY where he helped lead a team of divers at the New York Harbor School, working with the Billion Oyster Project to restore New York City’s native oyster reefs. After graduating from Northeastern University in Boston, Jaxon left the world of marine research to attend the National Film and Television School in the UK, where he uses his background in marine biology and philosophy to tell stories that promote more harmonious relationships with our natural world.
Director Statement
The Great Salt Lake is a lifeline for countless species across the Western Hemisphere and it's the Utah State Government's responsibility to take care of this incredible ecosystem. My hope is that this film can be one voice of many pushing Utah's political leaders to do what’s right both for the lake and for their constituents.
