About the Film

WINNER: YOUNG FILMMAKERS SHOWCASE COMPETITION - AGES 13-17

San Francisco’s residents depend on the iconic fog, affectionately known as Karl, to keep the temperatures comfortable during the summer. Due to climate change, Karl has been decreasing. This film urges people to take action together to advocate for the future of our planet.

Director Statement

Over the course of the 2022-2023 school year, the Nueva Social Impact Filmmaking Club, collaborated with local residents, tourists, park rangers, and researchers to delve into the multifaceted nature of San Francisco's Fog, affectionately nicknamed Karl by the locals. Our aim was to understand its profound impact on the city and shed light on the complex interplay between climate change and our daily lives.

We firmly believe that education is the key to addressing climate change effectively. With this film, we seek to inspire and engage audiences, encouraging them to explore how climate change permeates into unexpected aspects of our lives, such as the enigmatic phenomenon of fog for San Franciscans but also other environmental phenomena in other cities, states, and countries. The moral of our film? Do not take what we have now for granted. By fostering greater awareness and understanding, we hope to mobilize individuals from all walks of life to take meaningful action in combating climate change.

Unveiling the City was created by the Social Impact Filmmaking Club (SIFC) as a team project.
