Carl Davis
Carl Davis has been a director and cinematographer for over 30 years in the film and video production industry, creating museum exhibition films, documentaries, independent features, and corporate marketing films. Since moving to Orcas Island in 2016, he has been making short documentaries for local non-profits, including Friends of the San Juans and Plastic Free Salish Sea, along with films that reflect his own passion and interests, such as “The Magic of Sailing.” Over the past 4 years, Carl has been honored to have had 3 of his films chosen to be screened in the annual Friday Harbor Film Festival.

DIRECTOR STATEMENT
The “Magic of Sailing” is a short video that features the sailing community of Orcas Island, Washington—a tiny island in the San Juan Islands, located in the Salish Sea just a few miles south of the Canadian border. The film is composed of interview clips from sailors ranging from 5 to 85 years old, along with striking action sequences of sailing set to jazzy blues music and taken with the latest action cameras and drones. The film is a celebration of the deep joy and learning that a lifetime of sailing can offer and is a wonderful encouragement for anyone—young or old-- who has ever been intrigued by the magic of being propelled by the wind. #youthsailing #sailing #theBreezeOnYourFace
